We've been installing solar systems across Roscommon for over 12 years. We know the local rooftops, the Irish climate quirks, and exactly what system size makes sense for different property types in the county.
We understand Roscommon's property types, roof orientations, and planning context. No generic solutions — every system is designed for the specific property.
We handle your grant application with you. We know what's required and we make the process as straightforward as possible for our customers.
Every system we install is sized and configured for the actual property — not a standard package that's the same regardless of your energy needs.
We're honest about payback periods and realistic savings figures. Solar is a long-term investment and we want you to understand exactly what to expect before you commit.
The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) provides grants to help homeowners and businesses reduce the upfront cost of installing solar panels. Here's what you need to know.
The SEAI Solar PV grant is available to homeowners in Ireland who want to install solar panels. The grant amount is based on the size of the system you install, measured in kilowatts peak (kWp). You do not need to pay the full cost upfront in many cases — your installer applies the grant at the point of invoice.
To qualify, your installer must be registered on the SEAI's Better Energy Homes scheme. As a registered SEAI Approved Installer, Saunderson Solar manages this process for every residential customer we work with across Roscommon and the surrounding area.
Battery storage is not currently covered by the SEAI solar PV grant, but batteries can still be installed alongside your solar system. The 0% VAT rate on residential solar (in place since May 2023) helps reduce the overall cost of both panels and battery systems.
Businesses and agricultural operations may be eligible for separate SEAI support schemes, including the Support Scheme for Renewable Heat and other business energy programmes. We'll walk you through which grant applies to your situation during your free consultation.

€700/kWp for the first 2kWp, then €200/kWp up to 4kWp. Grant calculated pro-rata. Battery storage is not covered by this grant. Amounts confirmed for 2026 by SEAI.

The savings and benefits of solar differ depending on the type of property. Here's what residential solar, commercial solar, and agricultural solar typically deliver.
Residential solar reduces home electricity costs by generating your own power. Most Roscommon homes see meaningful reductions from day one.
Commercial solar improves business energy efficiency and reduces the operating costs that come with high commercial electricity tariffs.
Agricultural solar powers farm operations and reduces one of the largest controllable costs facing Irish farmers today.

These are the questions we hear most often from people considering solar in Roscommon.
Yes — and better than most people expect. Modern solar panels generate electricity from daylight, not direct sunshine. Ireland receives enough annual light to make solar panels a worthwhile investment, particularly from spring through autumn. Even during overcast conditions, your system generates meaningful output. Irish homeowners and businesses are seeing real results with solar, which is reflected in the growing number of SEAI grant applications each year.
The cost depends on the size of the system, the type of panels, and whether you're adding battery storage. For a typical Roscommon home, a 4kWp system might range from €6,000 to €9,000 before the SEAI grant is applied. The 2026 SEAI Solar PV grant provides up to €1,800 for a 4kWp or larger system, calculated at €700 per kWp for the first 2kWp and €200 per kWp from 2 to 4kWp. We provide a detailed written quote for every enquiry at no charge.
Most residential installations in Roscommon are completed in one to two days. Commercial or larger agricultural installations may take longer depending on the scale. The full process from consultation to system going live typically takes four to eight weeks, much of which involves the grant application and grid connection paperwork rather than physical installation time.
Yes. The Clean Export Guarantee (CEG) scheme allows you to receive payment for any surplus solar electricity you export to the national grid. Each energy supplier sets its own export rate. We advise all our Roscommon customers on how to register for export payments as part of the installation process, so you start earning from day one.
In most cases, solar panels on a domestic property in Ireland are considered exempt development and do not require planning permission, subject to certain conditions. However, exemptions may not apply to protected structures or properties in certain zones. As part of your survey, we'll confirm the planning situation for your specific Roscommon property and advise on next steps if any permission is needed.
Solar systems are relatively low-maintenance. Panels are largely self-cleaning in Irish rainfall conditions, though periodic cleaning and an annual system inspection are recommended to protect performance over the long term. Our maintenance services protect system performance and allow us to identify and fix any issues before they affect output. We offer annual maintenance packages for all our Roscommon installations.
Agricultural solar is well-suited to most Irish farms because of the large roof areas on farm buildings and the high daytime electricity demand that farm operations generate. Agricultural solar powers farm operations including milking equipment, ventilation systems, lighting, and water heating. Farm buildings often allow for larger system sizes, which means greater output and faster payback. We've installed systems on a range of farm types and can advise on the best approach for your specific holding.
